Electrical Engineer - Control Devices
Introduction:
Ideal Vacuum is looking for a skilled electrical engineer to join our team designing control and automation systems for vacuum pumps, systems, and peripheral devices. A successful applicant for this position can demonstrate a strong background in electrical design, focusing on PLC design and embedded control systems. The applicant must have a working knowledge of ladder logic. Multidisciplinary skills such as 3D CAD, software coding, and a knowledge of vacuum systems are highly beneficial.
Responsibilities:
After completing on-job training, an engineer at Ideal Vacuum is:
- Self-directed in assigned projects, with supervisor support
- A valuable, contributing member of the product development team
- Involved in multiple project phases from product definition to product deployment
- Able to juggle several projects at in different development phases
- Able to help improve design and manufacturing workflow in the company
Education:
- B.S. Electrical Engineering + 4 years of relevant electrical design experience
- or M.S. Electrical Engineering + 2 years of electrical design experience
- or Ph.D. Electrical Engineering
Skills and Experience:
Expertise in control electronics such as PLCs and embedded controls
Experience with full system integration of control electronics with physical devices
Experience with both analog and digital inputs and outputs
Experience with ladder logic and other control programming methods

Job Tasks
As a design team member at Ideal Vacuum, an electrical engineer is responsible to contribute to various ongoing projects in various stages of development as they are assigned. They will work with a multi-disciplinary team of development staff including scientists, mechanical engineers, software engineers, assembly technicians, and documentation staff to produce a marketable product from initial design concepts. The following items are common work activities for an electrical engineer at Ideal Vacuum:
- Interpret global project goals into specific electrical circuit requirements and specifications
- Analyze legacy electronic devices and processes
- Rapid fabricate and test prototype systems with model inputs and outputs
- Create schematics using design software
- With mechanical and software engineers, integrate control circuits into finished systems
- Design and implement test and quality control procedures for vacuum systems and equipment
- Prepare written and oral reports to supervisory and documentation team members with limited understanding of electronics
