Apiezon H High Temperature 240°C Vacuum Grease 1.7x10-10 Torr at 20°C, 25 Gram Tube
In Stock
4

Apiezon H High Temperature Vacuum Grease, 25 Gram Tube Apiezon H is designed for applications at higher temperatures and of all the Apiezon greases, is the formulation for the highest temperatures. Apiezon H grease can be used over a wide range of temperatures from -10 to + 240° C, while optimum consistency is retained at between +10 and +110° C. There are a growing number of applications for Apiezon H outside of the vacuum area, for example, it is used on a heatsink fan for a computer central processing unit (CPU). Apiezon H grease exhibits good vacuum properties (ultimate vapor pressure 1.7x10-10 Torr at 20°C) in the lower to medium vacuum range at higher temperatures, while at lower temperatures, Apiezon H grease can be used in the high vacuum range. Apiezon H is a filled hydrocarbon grease which exhibits excellent heat transfer properties. Allowing heat to conduct away from a site of operation, Apiezon H grease will reduce the danger of overheating and hence will limit the risk of damage to heat sensitive components. Apiezon H grease is manufactured from a unique feedstock containing a high proportion of branched and unsaturated hydrocarbons. These complex structures give Apiezon H grease a very high molecular weight and consequently, strong powers of absorption, particularly for other hydrocarbon molecules. Strong absorption properties ensures that Apiezon H grease has powerful gettering action, that is, the power to absorb greasy or chemical impurities on metal and glass surfaces. This is of considerable value in the electronics industry where scrupulous cleanliness of metal surfaces is required.

Apiezon L Ultra High Vacuum Grease 2x10-11 torr at 20° C, Silicone & Halogen Free, 50 G Tube
In Stock
15

Apiezon L Ultra High Vacuum Grease With Vapor Pressure of 2x10-11 torr at 20° C, Silicone & Halogen Free, 50 G Tube Apiezon Grease, Type L relative to the other Apiezon greases, contains lower molecular weight wax and is reported to contain absolutely no additives whatsoever. The ultimate vapor pressure is 2x10-11 torr at 20° C and the best of all the Apiezon greases. . The grease can be used in gas liquid chromatography applications and also, the ground glass joints of any vacuum system. The melting point is quite low, and Apiezon grease, type L is not recommended for use at temperatures exceeding 30° C, so this is strictly for room temperature applications. One would not want to use this grease near the filament housing (which gets quite hot) in any SEM or TEM since there would be quite substantial off-gassing of the low melting point product. And remember, this grease is completely hydrocarbon and is totally free of any silicones or halogens. Apiezon L is highly versatile and can be applied in a number of different ways. It can be dissolved in a variety of organic solvents. One advantage of Apiezon L over certain other greases, such as silicon greases, is that it can be dissolved in a number of different solvent liquids for a more highly controlled deposition on a surface. Hexane: Apiezon L will dissolve in hexane to 11% weight/weight. When heated to 50°C , the solution becomes cloudy. d-limonene: This might be a better solvent, it is extracted from orange peel and can be purchased from the Florida Chemical Company, Inc. This leaves a gel at room temperature and a concentration of 11%weight/weight. When heated to 50°C, the solution becomes clear which indicates that although the grease is molten at this temperature, it is still compatible with the solvent. Lower temperatures might be possible but we have data only for 50°C. Toluene: Behaves similarly to d-limonene but remains slightly cloudy at 50°C. Apiezon L grease can also be used to protect electrical contacts. Apiezon L grease can also be used to protect electrical contacts. The grease itself is of course an insulator, however, the grease film on a contact is so thin at the actual point of contact that it just does not interfere with the passage of electrical current except for the smallest of voltages. To further clarify this point, Apiezon L has an electrical strength of 720 volts per mil (0.001/25 µm). In a metal to metal contact the film of grease would be only of the order of 0.00001/0.25 µm) or less, giving an electrical strength of only 7 volts. For contacts operating at high temperatures, use Apiezon T. Trace element analysis: Apiezon L grease is known for its low levels of trace elements.

Apiezon Wax W Hard Vacuum Sealing, Softening Point 85°C, 5x10-9 Torr at 20°C, Wax, 25 x 20g Sticks
In Stock
5

Apiezon Wax W Hard Vacuum Sealing, Softening Point 85°C, 5x10-9 Torr at 20°C, Wax, 25 x 20g Sticks Apiezon waxes are versatile products offering a multitude of uses. The key features of Apiezon waxes are: Jointing media, Gettering qualities, Etch fluid resistant, Mounting media, and Low to medium vacuum range. An Apiezon wax being a solid at ambient temperatures is ideal for use where a rigid permanent or semi-permanent sealed joint is required. Apiezon waxes are equally effective at maintaining seals in vacuum systems down to 10-9 torr at 20°C (dependent on the wax) and in systems at small positive pressures. They are excellent waterproof mediums providing a total seal against liquid water and offer superior sealing against water vapour and atmospheric moisture. The excellent vapour pressure characteristics, as shown in the graph opposite, are extremely important for a variety of applications, including thin film deposition as volatiles will not jeopardise the vacuum within the system or contaminate thin film deposits. Like the greases, Apiezon waxes have powerful gettering qualities. This gettering power coupled with high purity and very clean meltdown properties of the waxes has led to their extensive use in the electronics industry, where scrupulous cleanliness of metal surfaces is required. Apiezon waxes are used in the manufacture of silicon transistors and integrated circuits. They are chemically inert, being resistant to etching fluids such as hydrofluoric acid, nitric acid and acetic acid, but are easily removed with hydrocarbon or chlorinated solvents. Many impurities which may have remained on the surface if a solvent were used in isolation are also removed with the wax. Apiezon waxes are extensively used as protective coatings for printed circuits, ensuring complete protection for the copper circuit from acid etching processes and air oxidation, while enabling direct soldering through the wax. Apiezon waxes are excellent mounting media and are used extensively as both temporary and permanent adhesives for the mounting of silicon chips. To use as a mounting medium, either melt the wax and apply neat to the surface, or dissolve in a hydrocarbon or chlorinated solvent prior to use. Evaporation of the solvent will leave a thin layer of wax with excellent adhesive properties. To ensure an adhesive layer of consistent thickness across its surface rapidly rotate the chip and a superior mounting surface will be created. How to use Apply pre-melted wax to the required area using a glass rod, spatula or other such implement, taking care not to exceed a temperature of 60°C above the softening point of the wax shown above. To remove the wax after use heat to soften and scrape away. Any deposits can then be washed with an organic solvent or removed using a vapour degreasing bath. Apiezon Wax W is the first choice wax for most situations, offering efficient joint sealing over the widest temperature range, the most resistance to attack by acids and alkalis, the lowest vapour pressures, the most resistance to water and, for such a versatile wax, surprisingly the lowest cost when presented in the 1kg block. Wax W is also available in 20g sticks offering faster application. A single stick being simply heated at the site of application with a small blow torch or Bunsen burner.
